New Advances in Lyme Disease Prevention: Chimeric Recombinant Technology
Dr. Marconi earned his bachelors degree at William Patterson College and PhD at the University of Montana studying microbiology and biophysical chemistry, respectively. After completing his PhD work, he began his post-doctoral training at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology where he studied bacterial metabolism. His postdoctoral studies continued at the Rocky Mountain Laboratories, a National Institutes of Health research facility. Dr. Marconi joined Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in 1994 and is now a Full Professor of Medicine. He has 28 years of experience studying spirochetal and tick borne diseases including Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis, periodontal disease and leptospirosis. He has lectured worldwide, published over 105 research articles, served on over 100 national and international advisory panels and was a chartered member of the Vaccines for Microbial Diseases NIH Study Section. In 2016 he received the prestigious Billy R Martin
Innovation award for his vaccine work. He currently serves on the Scientific Advisory Board for the Global Lyme Alliance and on editorial boards of several journals. He is an inventor of VANGUARD crLYME and a new human Lyme diagnostic assay called the Global Lyme Diagnostic assay. Dr. Marconi is credited for the development of a new and exciting vaccine technology platform called “Chimeritope Technologyâ€. Currently, he is working aggressively to develop a human Lyme vaccine and vaccines for other tick-borne pathogens.
